Kirklees Collegiates (14-19)
Kirklees Collegiates (14-19) is a partnership of Kirklees schools, colleges, work-based learning providers, community and voluntary organisations, the local authority, the careers service, and Compact Education Business Services.
Our purpose is to:
- develop and broaden the curriculum offer for all 14-19 learners in Kirklees to help young people prepare for the next stages into further learning or employment
- encourage e-learning and the use of modern technology to support learning e.g. to make applications to schools and colleges at age 16
- provide access to information, advice and guidance to help young people make the right choices for them.
We offer:
Collegiates programmes
Half day courses in a wide range of subject areas and offered in schools, college or work based learning providers. Qualifications range from GCSEs, NVQs, specialist professional qualifications, etc.
14-19 Diplomas
These are applied learning programmes where the learning is set in the context of a broad area of employment – young people will be able to identify the wide range of careers within each sector.
Work-based learning
These are one day programmes which enable young people to develop skills from a wide range of vocational areas within training and development settings. Qualifications are relevant to the vocational area.
Foundation learning
These programmes give young people an opportunity to have a personalised learning programme relevant to their capabilities. They provide a way of building up qualifications through a range of short courses at different levels and include personal development skills as well as vocational tasters.
Collaborative learning manager
(CLM) – Online attendance registration and progress reviews for learners working across Kirklees on collegiates courses, regardless of home centre (school or college)
Prospectus/CAPs for Kirklees
Area wide prospectus and Common Application Process (CAPs) helping 14-19 learners to search and apply for courses online
Learners from all Kirklees schools have access to our programmes. We arrange courses through schools, colleges and work-based learning providers and the learners are transported to the relevant location for one half day, a full day or two days according to the programme, with the remainder of the week in their home centre (school or college) completing National Curriculum subjects. As learners are working off-site, tracking and monitoring is through ‘CLM’ our online progress review and attendance system.
The collegiates have operated successfully for several years and have a very good reputation in Kirklees and within our partner organisations. Many of the courses are demanding in time and effort, particularly the Young Apprenticeships and the 14-19 Diplomas, yet feedback from learners is extremely positive.
